Toronto Therapist Specializing in Mental Health, Addiction, Trauma and LGBTQ+ Therapy - Sly Sarkisova
Consultation| Clinical Supervision| Toronto Psychotherapy & Addiction Counselling
Welcome! I am a queer and trans identified Registered Social Worker Psychotherapist providing Consultation, Training, Supervision, Psychotherapy and Addiction Counselling. With over 20+ years experience working in the field of mental health and addiction recovery, I have extensive experience supporting folks struggling with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychosis, interpersonal difficulties, life transitions, complex post-traumatic stress, as well as alcohol, heroin, crack, crystal meth and sex addictions.
My social work practice is clinical in nature, providing psychotherapy to individuals that centres and affirms unique experiences and strengths. I work to help folks feel safe to discuss the issues and barriers they face and establish goals for change. While many of my clients are queer and trans identified, it is not my exclusive focus. I work with a diverse array of individuals around relationship concerns, trauma, mental health and addiction issues and welcome anyone to my practice who is in need of open, non-judgmental, empathic support. Poly, kink, and folks doing sex work are more than welcome and will find safe space here.
My psychotherapeutic training and practice are wholly derived from my ability to listen to the individual as the expert of their experience. I believe the most powerful healing and change come from affirmative relationships that acknowledge the power of an individual to tell and understand their own story. I strive to provide a welcoming, safe and reflexive space that centres your unique experience, while also identifying the impacts of systemic and individual traumas and stresses on your ability to cope and function. We will co-create a space wherein you feel safe to explore issues of concern to you, identify goals for increasing your ability to cope with distress, function better, and begin to externalize shame and stigma collected in the body and spirit.
The approach that I use will be specifically catered to your experience and needs and will infuse Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Narrative, Solution Focussed and Harm Reduction techniques within a larger model of anti-racist, anti-oppressive, trauma informed, holistic psychotherapy.
